Did anyone's real-time system go down last night because

None of my desktop systems (3) did... but I'm a small sample set.
Mine didn't either ( I have 3 also )
Anybody that uses XP for critical system should know to turn off the
automatic update server (amongst other thing). If they don't, IMHO
Microsoft is not to blame.
Ahh, but that's the trick. Some people are reporting that their systems
updated and reset even though they had auto-update turned *off*.
My PC running XP reset on its own last night. I thought it had just
spuriously reset, but now I'm wondering if it was this update. I have it
set to download updates, but not install them until I tell it to do so.

Right. That's the killer setting - download but don't install
until told. Apparently Microsoft can override that remotely,
and just did.
