Post subject: Auto start photon application as a user not root

Dear all
I am starting 6.3.2 and photon automatically by the usual method of
assigning LOGNAME=root etc in rc.sysinit and launching an application using
phapps.
I then changed LOGNAME =username etc and every thing works as expected. I am
using the files from my /home/user directory. I type who and it tells me I
am username and the user ID and group ID are correct, BUT if I click on
shelf-users it tells me I am Superuser root.
This is not what I want.
How do I stop being logged on as root
