VME or CPCI?

Post by Krupa » Wed Oct 01, 2003 11:57 am

Hi,

I am a QNX4.25 user but am new to QNX RTP operating system though we
have . We plan to implement a data monitoring and control system using QNX
RTP. We have considered 2 options for hardware selection. One option is VME
bus cards (Manufacturer = VMIC) and second option is CPCI-based cards
(Manufacturer = ADLINK). We have not yet
finalised the hardware selection. I was wondering which of the two would be
more suitable/compatible for use with QNX RTP.

Does anyone have any experience of comparing CPCI or VME for QNX RTP?

Thanks in advance,
Krupa

I am working on a cPCI system and RTP 6.2.1B. It works fine.
I've also worked on VME, but not with QNX. It should work fine too.

I'd suggest just looking for the exact hardward that your application
needs at the best price / performance level and don't worry about how
well it works with QNX. It should *just work*.

Having said that, it never hurts to ask about return policy just in
case. There could always be issues that aren't cPCI or VME specific.

Hi Krupa...

We use QNX RTP 6.2.1B on cPCI system from VMIC with no problems. We have
two slave CPU boards, one of which runs Linux. Every body is happy.

Regards...

Miguel.

Wait... maybe RMS is not happy. Rumors have it that according to GPLv4
communicating with something that runs Linux makes your code GPL :p
